THOMPSONTOWN - Clifford D. "Dex" Stimeling, 71, of Thompsontown, died at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on Sept. 6, 1941, in Monroe Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Cloyd and Mary Etta (Burdge) Stimeling. On April 7, 1965, he married Barbara A. (Dowling) Stimeling, of Thompsontown, with whom he shared more than 48 years of marriage.
Surviving are: his children, Daryl Stimeling and wife, Paula, of Lewistown, and Wendy Hoover and husband, Lynn, of Thompsontown; five siblings, David S. Stimeling and wife, Connie, Carol L. Kerstetter and husband, Wilbur, Brittin F. Stimeling and wife, Susan, all of McAlisterville, Correne A. Freeland and husband, Jack, of Newport, and Lyndon B. Stimeling and wife, Brenda, of Richfield; and he leaves behind four grandchildren, Tiffany Stimeling, Rachel Stimeling, Colton Hoover and Caitlin Hoover.
Mr. Stimeling was a 1960 graduate of East Juniata High School, Cocolamus, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
Along with his brother Dave, he owned and operated Stimeling Logging for more than 40 years, until his retirement in 2008.
Dex enjoyed camping and being in the outdoors. He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and was proud to serve as main crew/motorman for Daryl Stimeling and Colton Hoover racing.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor Gerald Miller officating. Interment will be held in Niemond's Cemetery, Richfield.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
