Harold R. Kauffman

MIFFLINTOWN - Harold R. Kauffman, 59, of Mifflintown, died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Altoona Regional Trauma Center, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident on May 9, 2013.

Born July 20, 1953, in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, he was a son of Wilma F. (Graybill) Kauffman, of Mifflintown, and the late Raymond E. Kauffman.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: two siblings, Marlin D. Kauffman and his wife, Margie, of Mifflintown, and Barbara J. Freeman and her husband, Frank, of Bloomingburg, N.Y.; and he leaves behind a nephew, Frank Freeman Jr. and a niece, Jasmine Freeman.

Mr. Kauffman was a member of Lost Creek Mennonite Church, Oakland Mills, where he served as elder, church chairman, church treasurer, assistant Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. His memberships included past president and member of the Mifflin- Juniata Board of Realtors, Centre County Association of Realtors, Huntingdon County Board Realtors, Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Mifflin- Mifflintown Lions Club, Juniata County Farmer Bureau, General Association member of Appraisal Institute, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, past chairman of Central Juniata Emergency Medical Services, Juniata Sewage Committee, past president of Mifflin- Juniata Area Agency on Aging, past vice president of Mifflin-Juniata Aging Regional Services board, and SEDA-COG board of directors.

He was a 1972 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, a 1977 graduate of Hesston College, Kansas, and a 2000 graduate of Eastern University, St. Davids. To enhance his professionalism in the real estate business, he had also taken many courses in real estate.

Harold was a co-owner of Marlin Fields Real Estate, Lewistown, where he worked as a broker and appraiser since 2002 and was serving his third term as a Fermanagh Township supervisor, having been elected in 1999. With his dedication to public service, he served as the township zoning and subdivision officer of Fermanagh Township from 1978 until 1982, after which he served as a consultant to the township before becoming an elected official.

Although he loved to read, his lifelong passion was serving his community in various capacities.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Lost Creek Mennonite Church, Oakland Mills, with Pastor Sherman Stoltzfus officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Lost Creek Mennonite Church, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday, at the church.
