PHILADELPHIA -Mifflin County distance runner Jon Colwell participated in the coveted Penn Relays Friday and finished 25th in the 3,000 meter run.
In order to qualify for the event, an athlete must complete the race in 8:41 or less. Colwell finished in 8:47 and noted with disappointment that he had an opportunity to finish on top.
"I was going to win," he said. "I led the first 2,200 meters and with about two laps to go I lost the lead - I dropped."
Colwell said he started the race how he planned but it didn't exactly end how he wanted. For the first-time participant and Penn State bound senior, the experience of the event was worth it.
"It was a ton of fun," he said. "I met a lot of new people and I got to watch some good races."
Colwell will rejoin his teammates Tuesday as Mifflin County hosts Chambersburg.
