Jane (Manbeck) Kauffman

LEWISTOWN - Jane Manbeck Kauffman, 88, of Shade Mountain Farm, Lewistown, died April 4, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her children.

Born Feb. 26, 1925, she was the daughter of Jane and Harry R. Manbeck. Her husband of 57 years, Jonas B. Kauffman Jr., preceded her in death in February 2007.

Surviving are their children, Anne Cross Nolon and husband, John, of Tarrytown, N.Y., Jeanne Dean Kreiser and husband, James, of Midlothian, Va., Jonas B. Kauffman III and wife, Ruth, of Lancaster, and Betsy Redfern Hatcher and husband, Robert, of Macon, Ga.

Also surviving are their grandchildren, Sean Nolon and wife, Andrea, Jennie Cross Nolon Blanchard and husband, Mark, Elizabeth and Laura Kreiser, Lucas and Daniel Kauffman, Janie and Felton Hatcher, and two great-grandchildren, Ian and Ty Nolon.

She graduated from Lewistown High School in 1942.

Jane attended Drexel University and graduated from Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion Careers, in New York City. She worked for G. Fox & Co., in Hartford, Conn., and as a buyer of children's wear for Dank's and Co., in Lewistown. In later years, she joined her husband at Kauffman's Music & Furniture Store.

She was a lifelong member of Lewistown Presbyterian Church, where she served as a trustee, taught Bible school, was a member of the music committee and sang in the choir. She served on the first committee to form the Community Concert Series in Lewistown. One of her favorite projects was to help organize her class reunions.

A private family graveside service will be held in William Lind Memorial Cemetery.

Her memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Lewistown Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. James Thomas and Robert Zorn officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
