To the editor:
In my youth in the 1930s A favorite radio program was "The Shadow." We would listen to the now famous opening line, "What evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" I thought that was a passing statement for that show. Unfortunately I was wrong. In the past four-plus years the present Washington White House occupant has brought that statement to the memories of many older Americans. It is if we are listening to the "The Shadow" again. With abortion and gay marriage being promoted at the White House we now have added religious persecution.
In a story by Todd Starnes on Fox News and Commentary last month, that religious persecution is apparent is indicated in a story about the Romeike family.
They fled their German homeland in 2008 seeking political asylum in the United States - where they hoped to home school their children. Instead, the Obama administration wants the evangelical Christian family deported.
The fate of Uwe and Hannelore Romeike - along with their six children - now rests with the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. In 2010 an immigration judge granted the family political refuge, but the Department of Homeland Security objected and argued they don't deserve asylum.
As commented, "The Obama administration is basically saying there is no right to home school anywhere," said Michael Farris, founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association. "It's an utter repudiation of parental liberty and religious liberty."
On the other hand The White house has released several hundred illegal immigrants from detention in order to "save money."
"To save money" - or should that read "vote Democratic?"
The "What evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" statement surely fits White House thinking.
The White House consistently shows its disdain for religious beliefs. The Obamacare fiasco steps all over religious beliefs.
The more the White House proposes I believe John 8:44 defines those proposals: "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
