PITTSBURGH - Samuel C. Norris, 72, of Lewistown, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, in Pittsburgh.
Born on March 21, 1940, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Mary M. (Kitting) Norris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Robbins.
Sam is survived by: wife, Sylvan M. (Rhodes) Norris; children, Phillip C. Norris, of Reedsville, and Jason P. Norris and wife, Tricia, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Barbara Bargo, of Port Royal, and Jane Marlowe and husband, Joe, of Mifflintown; five grandchildren, Katie, Phillip, Gabriel, Samuel and Claire Norris; and a great-grandchild, Landon Rhodes.
Sam was proud to run his own business, Water Quality Labs, until he retired, and spent the better part of the last 10 years painting over 1,000 oil paintings of landscapes, animals and portraits. These paintings are hanging all over the country and the world including Italy, India, China, Germany and the Middle East. Recently, Sam's paintings were being displayed and sold at Blue Olive Galleries, in Pittsburgh.
Although Sam may be gone, his spirit is alive and apparent in each and every painting he has ever done. Along with his family, Sam loved and cherished his dogs, Dallas, Abby and Sophie every day.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Bob Henry officiating. Interment will be held in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Shade Gap.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home.
