LEWISTOWN - Mervin C. Sechrist, 82, of 1559 U.S. Highway 522 South, McVeytown, died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Lewistown Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1930, in McVeytown, the son of the late Albert and Clara (Pollock) Sechrist. His wife, Janet L. (Lockett) Sechrist, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Gary L. Sechrist of Mill Creek, Albert C. Sechrist and wife, Glenda, of McVeytown, and Mervin S. Sechrist and wife, Carol, of Newton Hamilton; stepson, Harold Lockett and wife, Sandy, of Lewistown; siblings, Betty Sunderland, Dan Sechrist and wife, Mary, Dorothy Gladfelter and husband, Leroy, Roy Sechrist and wife, Pam, and Robert Sechrist and wife, Gloria; sisters-in-law, Anna Sechrist and Esther Sechrist; brother-in-law, Edward Hesser; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Dona J. Hesser, Raymond Sechrist and Ralph Sechrist, and a brother-in-law, Jess Sunderland.
Mr. Sechrist worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, with 43 years..
He enjoyed camping and traveling, having traveled to all 50 states in the U.S. He also enjoyed gardening and hunting and was a member of the Atkinson Mills Sportsman's Club and the Lower 49 Camp.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Coleman officiating. Interment will be held in Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday Jan. 30, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
