Flood watch issued in area

Waters to rise through today; crest expected by Thursday evening

January 30, 2013
From staff reports , Lewistown Sentinel

LEWISTOWN - Heavy rain and melting snow will cause the level of many area waterways to rise Wednesday afternoon and evening and then pose a threat for minor flooding along the larger creeks and rivers in the Juniata Valley, the National Weather Service reports.

The NWS said a flood watch means there is a potential for flooding on small steams, creeks, poor drainage and urban and low-lying areas bases on current forecasts. River flooding is also possible.

According to the report, it is likely that smaller streams and tributaries will crest near or above bank-full prior to the Juniata River cresting. The Juniata River is predicted to crest to 14.6 feet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to the report, minor flooding should be expected in areas that are low lying or have poor drainage.
