LANCASTER - Juniata wrestler Sean Heggs struggled in the semifinals but came back to win third place at 138 pounds Saturday in the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic, the highest finisher among the local contingent in the tournament.
Mifflin County's top finisher was Kyle Kahley, fourth at 220 pounds, led a group of six placewinners overall for the Huskies. Juniata had four medalists in the event.
Heggs started the day suffering a 21-6 technical fall to eventual weight class champ Derek Arnold of Westfield. He responded with wins over the host school's Nate Musser in a consolation semi and Garrett Brown of DuBois in the thrd-place match, the latter going to sudden victory overtime before Heggs scored a takedown to win it 5-3.
Kahley picked up a decision over Lucas Chestnut of Mechanicsburg then went the distance against Juniata's Patrick Fitzgerald, winning the tiebreaker match 5-4 to advance to the third-place bout. Fitzgerald dropped to see Kahley after being pinned in the semis by Wilson's Hunter Hatlee, the eventual champion. Kahley didn't have enough left for Caesar Rodney's Zack Parker; Fitgerald rebounded to pin DuBois' Nick Davido for fifth.
Adam Barrick (132) of Juniata also finished fourth, as Westfield's Garrett Maged won a decision in the third-place match. Barrick beat Dan Ritz of Crestwood to advance in the consolations.
The two local schools saw one another a second time in the match for fifth at 120. Mifflin County's Ian Underhill got the best of Juniata's Rich Gilson inthat one, winning a 9-0 major decision after each of them dropped a consolation semi.
At 126, Mifflin County's Noah Stewart was fifth when he received a forfeit from Kerry Mega of Hamburg. Stewart made it to the semis before suffering his first setback, then lost a consolation semifinal. Mifflin County's Tre Carter went 1-1 at 195 to finish sixth, losing the placement match to Tyreek Smith of Moorestown in overtime.
The Huskies' Joe Knarr (152) and Caleb Rhodes (185) each wrestled for seventh, with Knarr logging a win in his final match.
In the team standings, Juniata finished 10th among 25 teams and Mifflin County 12th. Owen J. Roberts edged out Spring Grove by half a point to take the team title.

Bob Rohm tournament
BLOOMSBURG - Midd-West as a team went 2-3 in the Bob Rohm tournament Saturday at Bloomsburg University's Nelson Field House, but it could have been a winning day - the Mustangs lost a dual to Muncy by a point, 37-36, among the five they wrestled.
Midd-West picked up wins over Canton, 39-35, and got a 48-24 victory over Bloomsburg in a match that included one of the best individual bouts for the team all day, a 3-1 overtime victory by Zach Heeter pver Brandon Conrad at 152.
Heeter and two teammates went unbeaten through the event. He went 5-0, including one forfeit win, while wrestling at both 145 and 152 in different matches. Corey Stauffer (106 pounds) was 5-0 and Alex Lieberman (170) went 4-0.

* Mount Union tournament: The Trojans went unbeaten in their own tournament Saturday, getting victories over Bald Eagle Area, 51-45; Curwensville, 77-28; and Johnstown, 63-33. Individuals who went 3-0 on the day were Rylan Boone (75 pounds), Josh Boozel (80), Evan Fortney (95), Andrew Todaro (100), D.J. Bookwalter (165), Mason Hockenberry (210) and Austin Rhodes (250).

ELLIOTTSBURG - Due to inclement weather, the second day of the Perry County boys basketball tournament, which includes Greenwood, was postponed. The games will be played today.
