To the editor:
I have lived through all the decades in America since the 1930s and there probably have been more changes in the last 70-plus years than any time in history. There have always been families where religion and Christianity have not been practiced. With Bible reading and prayer in schools, their children were exposed to at least 12 years of Bible reading and Christian morals and principles.
I attended a one-room school where one teacher taught eight grades. We had Bible reading and prayer every day. I never saw anyone finish eighth grade who couldn't read and write. Now we have students graduating from high school who can barely read and write.
I don't understand why God, prayer and Bible reading have been taken out of schools and public places when the majority of Americans still believe in God. Our nation was founded on Christianity. Of the 55 men who signed the Declaration of Independence, 52 of them were active participating Christians and our Constitution was modeled after the Ten Commandments.
History has repeated itself for thousands of years. Any nation that ever turned its back on God was brought to its knees. One of our most famous presidents, Ronald Regan, once said, "If we ever fail to become one nation under God, we'll become one nation gone under."
Look what has happened to our country since the government has taken God out of government, public schools and public places. We have teenagers going into schools and public places and gunning down innocent people. We have more youth committing suicide. We have destroyed the values and sacredness of marriage. We have taken what the Bible calls sin and labeled it alternative lifestyles. We have legalized the killing of innocent babies. Many parents have failed to show their children love and teach them Christian morals and responsibility. Our TV shows are corrupted with violence, adultery and vulgarity. Our government has become corrupted where money speaks louder than honesty.
If we don't get back to becoming one nation under God, then we can say goodbye to America.
It's time for Christians and people who believe in God to take a stand and not allow atheists to prevail.
