Gun/people control will require serious discussion

December 20, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

To the editor:

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting the issue of gun control is obviously in the fore front of the national conversation. As a gun owner, shooting enthusiast and NRA member I have a gut feeling that this may be the one that broke the proverbial camel's back and a assault weapons ban will be passed.

This kind of violence has to stop and we as a nation can no longer tolerate being terrorized by psychotic mass killers. Conservatives are calling for arming teachers and the liberals are calling for gun bans. I for one am not comfortable with either.

My opinion is that the solution is somewhere in the middle . As the saying goes "guns don't kill people; people kill people." It's about time we focus on the people.

No matter where you stand on the gun issue we all have to come together and have a serious discussion and find a solution that we can all live with. If we don't we will all suffer the consequences.
