Council approves sewer and refuse rate hike for new year

Budget to be voted on during Dec. 27 public meeting

December 14, 2012
Lewistown Sentinel

LEWISTOWN - Lewistown Borough Council held a special public meeting Thursday to ratify the advertising of the proposed budget for 2013.

Lewistown Borough Council Vice President Russ Rager said the council approved a motion to increase the sewage rates 15 percent and refuse rates four percent in a unanimous decision by the council.

At the Monday Borough Council meeting an ordinance to raise the sewage and refuse rates was rejected by the council. This decision led to a failure to pass the 2013 budget.

"The meeting before was very negative." Rager said, referring to Monday's meeting, "Some members had a limited understanding of the project."

Rager said there will be a public meeting at 5 p.m. Dec. 27 at the Lewistown Municipal Building to vote to adopt an updated 2013 budget.

The budget is available for public review until it is voted upon.

Rager is acting as Borough Council president because James Felmlee resigned at the end of the Monday meeting.
