MIFFLINTOWN - Danny Snyder was elected to serve another term as president of the Juniata County School District Board of Directors during the board's annual reorganization meeting held Tuesday evening at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School.
Also nominated was Ray Page, by Randy Dressler. The directors also unanimously nominated and elected Glenda Leister for the office of vice president of the board.
Snyder and Leister will serve as president and vice president for a one-year term beginning immediately and terminating Dec. 5, 2013.
In addition, the following directors were reappointed to the board, effective immediately: William Book, Melvin E. Brubaker Jr., Randy Dressler, Glenda Leister, John Noss, Ray Page, Christine Shadel, Joseph Shearer and Danny Snyder.
Also during the reorganization meeting, the board appointed individuals to serve the following roles: Leister and Dressler to serve as Mifflin-Juniata Career and Technology Center Joint Operations board members, with Noss serving as alternate; Book to the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 Board of Directors; Shadel as Pennsylvania School Board Association liason and public outreach campaign key contact; and Page as transportation committee liason.
The board also approved the 2013 meeting schedule. The board will meet at 8 p.m. at Fermanagh-Mifflintown Elementary School on the third Thursday of each month except July and December. July meetings will be special meetings as called by Snyder. The December regular meeting and reorganization meeting will be held Dec. 5, 2013.
In other new business, the board:
Approved Dr. Scott C. Etter as solicitor for the JCSD.
Approved financial reports for November 2012, and approved the list of bills for payment.
Adopted a resolution indicating that the board will not raise the rate of any tax for the support of public schools for the 2013-2014 school year by more than its approved index, which is 2.3 percent of the current millage, as established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Approved Valerie Schlegel and Robin Scannella as four-hour Level III paraprofessionals at Tuscarora Valley Elementary School.
Established the position of director of special education.
Approved the donation of unused textbooks to a parochial school.
