MIFFLINTOWN - Wilbur E. Harshbarger, 92, of Mifflintown, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at The Bridges at Brookline.
Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Ryde, he was a son of the late Caleb and Tillie (Miller) Harshbarger. His wife, Marie G. (Miller) Harshbarger, whom he married on Dec. 24, 1942, died on Sept. 24, 2008.
He is survived by: two sons, Zane E. Harshbarger and his companion, Verna Dell, and Sheldon D. Harshbarger and his wife, Sheila, all of Mifflintown; one sister, Lorma Moist, of McVeytown; two granddaughters, Shelly Harshbarger, of Thompsontown, and Ashley Hoover and her husband, Chad, of Tyrone; and one great-grandson, Jason L. Hoover.
He was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Donna Harshbarger; two brothers, Sam Harshbarger and Joseph Harshbarger; and six sisters, Mary Knepp, Effie Harshbarger, Elva Hesser, Bessie Ronk, Edna Moist and Mabel Harshbarger.
Wilbur was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II.
He had worked at various jobs, but primarily was a lifelong farmer.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had bowled up to the age of 85. He was a life member of the NRA, the Juniata County Sportsmen's Association and the Blue Ridge Veteran's Association.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Don Peters officiating. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday, at the church.
Interment will be held in Pleasant View Cemetery, McVeytown, where full military honors will be accorded by Lewistown VFW Post 7011.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.
