To the editor:
As a Christian and a conservative, two Democrats I could have voted for were President John F. Kennedy and Gov. Bob Casey Sr. Both of these leaders employed principled governing policies that benefited all Americans, including the needy and most vulnerable.
President Kennedy proposed cutting individual and corporate taxes in order to promote economic prosperity (Listen on the internet to the "JFK speech" delivered on Dec. 14, 1962). Currently, the Obamacare tax law and regulations are prohibiting businesses from hiring and growing their operations. Like JFK, Mitt Romney proposes lower individual and corporate tax rates to increase employment and stimulate the economy.
Gov. Bob Casey Sr. was unashamedly pro-life. Sadly, his son, Sen. Bob Casey Jr., on April 14, 2011, voted to provide taxpayer funding for organizations that snuff out the life of the innocent unborn. Sen. Casey also voted for the Obamacare tax law that takes $716 billion from Medicare to fund Obamacare.
Republican Senate candidate Tom Smith is a father and grandfather who is pro-life and concerned about our country's current decline - at home and abroad. He supports the coal industry and wants America to be energy independent by increasing access to all domestic resources.
The Obama administration has been closing coal mining operations and coal-fired power plants that provide a large portion of our electricity In 2008, candidate Obama said he wanted to bankrupt coal companies and that "energy prices would by necessity skyrocket." Under his administration, his predictions have and will continue to become reality. Sen. Casey's energy voting record shows he supports President Obama's policies.
Today, President Kennedy would have more in common with Americans who think we are taxed enough already, with Mitt Romney and with Tom Smith rather than with President Obama. Likewise, Gov. Bob Casey Sr., policy-wise, would have more in common with Mitt Romney and Tom Smith than with his son, Bob Casey Jr.
Based on evidence of the last four years, a vote for President Obama and Sen. Casey will ensure additional years of joblessness, ever-increasing taxes and regulations. Food, energy, and health care costs will continue to rise. Without healthy gross national product growth, with a declining dollar value, and with doctors leaving the medical field, there will be shortages and rationing of goods and medical services.
Security threats from within and from outside our country will increase. Osama (bin Laden) may be dead, but Islamic terrorism is very much alive - despite what the president says on the campaign trail. The death of our Libyan ambassador and three other Americans is proof of our country's vulnerability.
During these perilous times, wisdom dictates a principled vote on Nov. 6 for freedom, for a free market and for a policy of peace through strength Mitt Romney and Tom Smith's plans best assure a path to a brighter, more secure future.
