BELLEVILLE - Belleville Mennonite ended the regular season with a win, but not without making coach Brian Renno nervous.
The boys soccer team won 8-3 Tuesday, although things that went its way early turned later. A 5-0 lead became a 5-3 contest after the Trojans gave up their first own goal of the season just before the break, then two more to start the second.
"I feel like I'm being redundant. The last three games, the first 40 minutes we've played real well. In the second half we struggle to get going," Renno said.
But a Jung Kim goal - his second of the day - and a pair by Andrew Miller, who scored five with two helpers, put it out of reach. The Trojans end the regular season at 14-3-1, and prepare for their debut in the District 6 Class A tournament against Bishop McCort, which they fell to last year in the district final. That game will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Point Stadium in Johnstown.
"We're expecting tough opponents," Renno said. "We're going to have to play a mistake-free game."
