Karl E. Mummah

MIFFLINTOWN - Karl E. Mummah, 81, of Mifflintown, died at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County.

Born March 3, 1931, on his family's farm in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Harry S. and Martha (Hower) Mummah. On March 3, 1952, he married his surviving wife, Sylvia M. (Ragan) Mummah, with whom he shared more than 60 years of marriage.

He is survived by: his children, Ronald E. Mummah and his wife, Desiree, of Port Royal, Daniel L. Mummah and his wife, Norma, of Mifflintown, Beverly M. Reynolds, of Freeland, Md., and Stanley K. Mummah and his wife, Lezlee, of Mifflintown; two brothers, Warren H. Mummah and his wife, Claire, and Kenneth B. Mummah and his wife, Ruth, all of Mifflintown; sister, Janet Shearer and her husband, Harold, of East Waterford; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mummah was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Oakland Mills. He was also a member of the NRA, the Juniata County Farmers Association, the Central Pa. Square Dance Callers Association, the American Folk Musicians Association and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 925, Millerstown.

Karl was born and raised, raised his own family and was a life-long farmer on Big Run Acres, his family's generational farm.

His love of the land and of the outdoors, was evident in his love of fishing and hunting, especially the elusive turkey. He also enjoyed square dancing and competitive square dancing during the Pennsylvania Farm Show. In his earlier years, he was an avid bowler.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Oakland Mills, with his pastor, the Rev. Edward D'Agostino officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday, at the church.
