LEWISTOWN - A new part-time police officer was approved Monday by Lewistown Borough Council at its monthly meeting.
The Lewistown Police Department will hire Enio A. Siracusa, a borough resident, to be the third part-time officer thanks to the council's approval.
Also in a report from Police Chief Bill Herkert the council approved a motion to allow the Block Watch meeting to be in the Community Center at Rec Park on Thursday.
Mayor Deb Bargo said domestic abuse in our community is a big problem and with the Board it was approved to move forward and apply for the Stop Grant from the Abuse Network. This grant will bring $24,000 a year for three years to deal directly with domestic abuse.
Bargo and the board also set the trick or treat night date for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 30 to correlate with other townships.
The council approved for Fame EMS to use borough streets for the Halloween Parade.
The council approved a motion to pay for bills. General borough, refuse, wastewater collection, wastewater treatment plant, state liquid fuels and specialty tax fund were all included.
While going over the Wastewater Facilities Updates the board approved a motion to pay the H20 Grant where they will be submitting the third and final payment of $1,878,135. Also the WWTP Nutrient Reduction Upgrade Project monthly contractor requests for payments was approved by the board.
Also the council approved authorization for Connie Lucas to sign the COUNCIL amended permit and submit to Mifflin County Conservation District once U.S. Fish and Wildlife clearance is received. The board approved a motion to authorize two payments to accompany the permit package, a $500 general fee to the Mifflin County Clean Water Fund and a $300 per-acre free payable to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Clean Water Fund.
The council approved a proposal to place no parking signs on Main Street during Mifflin County High School home football games, a one-way alley from West Spanogle Avenue to East Walnut Street with a right turn only and permitted parking on both sides of Chestnut Street in front of the the Stoicheff residence.
The council approved to move forward with a consideration of annual service program contract from Power Systems Electric Inc. to maintain the emergency generator at the pump station.
Lewistown Borough Council regularly meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the borough building on Third Street.
