LEWISTOWN - William R. "Bill" Davis, 72, of 4670 Back Maitland Road, McClure, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 2, 1940, in McVeytown, he was the son of the late Norman A. and Sarah (Wagner) Davis.
Bill is survived by: his children, John S. "Johnny" Davis, of McClure, Pamela S. Imes and her husband, Steven, of Mifflin, Keena L. Mengle and her husband, David, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Billie Ann Dressler and her husband, John, of McClure, Robert A. Davis and his wife, Gwen, of Beavertown, Travis W. Davis, of Lewistown, and Michelle Davis, of Harrisburg; sisters, Sharon L. Gillam and her husband, Kenneth, of Reedsville, Gail A. Marker and her husband, James Jr., of Burnham, and Norma J. Yeager, of Lewistown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul G. and Dean A. Davis.
He was a 1958 graduate of Lewistown High School.
Early in life, Bill was employed as a truck driver at the Overhead Door Corporation. Later he was employed by Jevic Trucking and Class 1 Trucking, retiring in 2009.
He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143 and the Yeagertown Fire Company.
Bill enjoyed dancing to country music, hunting, butchering and his specialty was his homemade barbecued chicken.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles Eldredge officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, 342 S. Logan Blvd., Burnham, PA 17009.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
