REEDSVILLE - Catherine "Cathy" Vaughn Peachey, of 61 Church Lane, Reedsville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 3, 2012, with her family by her side.
Born March 1, 1956, in Lewistown, she was the spunky daughter of the late Glen A. and Elizabeth (Stover) Shank.
On June 7, 1980, she married her best friend and loving husband, James K. Peachey, who survives.
Cathy is survived by: four children, Lucas Bobb, of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Jessica (Peachey) Goss and husband, Eric, of Milroy, Jennifer (Peachey) Hartzler and husband, Cheston, of Lewistown, and Ian Peachey and wife, Abby, of Lewistown; sister, Mrs. James R. (Elaine) Neal, of Milroy; and six grandchildren, Wyatt, Sophia, Aaron, Autumn, Ella and Huck who will treasure fond memories of "Nawna."
She was dearly loved by her children who will miss her very much.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lynn N. "Shorty" Shank, Russell E. Shank, and Stephen "Farmer" Shank.
Cathy was an amazing woman. Often beginning her days very early in the morning, Cathy would wake to clean, vacuum or pack Jim's lunch before she left for work, teaching at Belleville Mennonite School. Throughout her teaching career, she taught learning support, kindergarten and other elementary grades. Her students were very special to her and she found much delight in teaching them.
While her children were at college, Cathy also worked as a part-time waitress at Peachey's Restaurant. She thoroughly enjoyed the new friends she made while working there and always had funny stories to tell from patrons or coworkers. She was a proverbial social butterfly.
In recent years, Cathy was lead by the Lord to become the children's ministry director at Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church. She had a passion for leading young lives to Christ as was evident in her dedication to programs such as Vacation Bible School, Operation Christmas Child and grief ministry activities. She loved her church family and enjoyed working on different projects within the church.
Cathy/Mom was an eclectic mix of Lucille Ball, Julia Child and a Proverbs 31 woman. Her opinionated point of view, chocolate cake, early morning phone calls and tender love will be missed by both friends and especially family. She was a loving mother and an adoring wife.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, Reedsville, with Pastor Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery, Milroy. A time of food and fellowship will follow directly at Kish Valley grace Brethren Church.
A viewing will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, 99 Taylor Park Drive, Reedsville. Bohn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
