MIFFLINTOWN - On Tuesday, the Juniata County Commissioners approved and adopted a resolution to abolish the Juniata County Office of Jury Commissioners.
The resolution is the result of a meeting held March 22 with the president judge and court administrator of the 41st Judicial District of Pennsylvania to review county procedures for selecting jurors.
Resolution 2012-4 states that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania enacted Act 108, authorizing the Boards of Commissioners to abolish the office of Jury Commissioners under certain provisions. After reviewing procedures presently used for the selection of jurors in Juniata County, the board determined that lists of potential jurors are a representative cross section of the community and therefore comply with the provisions of the act, the resolution states.
During the public board meeting Tuesday, the commissioners adopted Resolution 2012-4 to abolish the office.
Also at the meeting, Commissioner Jeffrey Zimmerman, on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, commended community members who contributed to the recent bicentenntial celebration.
"Congratulations to Perrysville/Port Royal on their bicentennial celebration," he said.
Zimmerman said he fondly remembers former businesses in the area and called the weekend celebration "remarkable."
In other business, the commissioners:
Approved the Purchase of Service agreement between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department and Children's Choice Inc., as submitted by Helen Henry, Children and Youth director. The agreement will be in effect from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.
Approved requests for liquid fuel funds for Delaware Township in the amount of $3,990.61 and Spruce Hill Township in the amount of $2,485.87.
Approved the board appointment request from the Juniata County Human Services Delivery Fund Advisory Board of Mike Hannon, executive director of the Tri-County Drug and Alcohol Commission, to the board, as submitted by Allison L. Fisher, human services director.
Approved the purchase of JuryTRAC software from CourtView Justice Solutions at a cost of $9,000. The project cost covers installation, implementation and on-site training.
Approved the Federal Fiscal Year 2012 Emergency Management Performance grant agreement between Juniata County and the Pennsylvania Emergency Mananagement Agency, as submitted by Allen Weaver, emergency services director.
Reviewed September 2012 field assessment totals submitted by Jeff Haines, chief assessor.
Approved the submission of the Megan's Law Registration/Verification support grand funds application as submitted by Michelle A. Beaver, chief probation officer.
Approved checks Nos. 35,960 through 35,991 in the amount of $88,974.36.
