Mary Martha ‘Marcie’ Gilbert

MIFFLIN - Mary Martha "Marcie" Gilbert, 81, of Mifflin, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 4, 1931, in Mifflin, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Sarah Myrtle (Woodward) Leach. Her husband, James L. "Tucker" Gilbert, died on March 4, 2003.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Betty Gilbert Giron, of Mifflin, and several nieces and nephews.

She is the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by: her son, James S. Gilbert; one sister, Margaret Peck; and four brothers, Sam, Cloyd, Harry and Billy Leach.

She was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School.

Marcie owned Gilbert's Grocery, in Mifflin, for many years and retired from Locust Grove Retirement Village, where she worked as a nurse's aide.

She enjoyed flower gardening and liked watching NASCAR. She was a fan of Dale Earnhardt. She especially loved to spoil children and was known as "Mamie" to many people. Her dogs, Penny and Heidi, were very important to her.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Phil Persing officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley.

There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Juniata County Pet Pantry, Inc., PO Box 3, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
