Hello again race fans. We are heading down the home stretch of the local racing season. Port Royal Speedway will soon be conducting fair week races.

This evening a four division program of sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and enduro cars will be spun off. Race time is 7.

At Selinsgrove Speedway the 358 sprint cars are joined by the late models, pro stocks and roadrunner cars. Lincoln Speedway is racing 410 and 358 sprint cars and the Eastern Museum of Racing will have their exhibit on display. Hagerstown Speedway features the topless late models tonight. Williams Grove and Susquehanna Speedway run their normal Saturday night events.

The All Star Circuit of Champions are at Butler Motor Speedway in Michigan this evening and the World of Outlaws race tomorrow night at Nodak Speedway in North Dakota.

Bedford Speedway will race Sunday, presenting the Roy Morral Tribute featuring 410 sprint cars, sportsman and four-cylinder stock cars. Race time is 6:30 p.m.

Chad Layton is on top of Port Royal Speedway's sprint car points chase. Layton leads Lance Dewease by 395 points. Tim Wilson holds a 55-point lead over Brett Schadel in late model competition.

How did our area racers make out at Knoxville, Iowa, last week? In the money department Lance Dewease earned more than $23,000. Daryn Pittman came home with $14,000. Danny Lasoski won almost $5,400. Tyler Walker had about $4,300. Logan Schugart earned $3,400. Other notables were Greg Hodnett, who made about $2,900, and Fred Rahmer, who won a little more than $1,300.

Donny Schatz scored the $150,000 win last Saturday night and $167,000 overall.

It's official: Goodyear Tire will not be the supplier of sprint car tires to the World of Outlaws and All Stars in 2013. Right now the groups are leaning toward American Racer to fill the bill.

American was formerly McCreary Tire of Indiana, Pa. Locally, I'm not sure our sprint car tracks will follow the Outlaws and All Stars this time. I feel they will entertain offers from Hoosier Tire Co. The 358 tracks use Hoosiers right now. It's going to be interesting for sure.

STP has signed a multi-year deal with the World of Outlaws which begins next season. STP will be the title sponsor of the series.

Don't forget the World of Outlaws late models are at Selinsgrove Speedway Aug, 26. Darrell Lanigan is red hot in outlaw late model racing and has won the last six races and 13 overall. Rob Esh and Rob Peters teamed up after Peters left Nicole Bower's race team in June.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup cars are at Michigan International Speedway for the Pure Michigan 400 Sunday. ESPN has TV coverage and the green flag falls at 1 p.m. Kyle Busch is the defending race champion. Marcos Ambrose enters the race fresh off a wild victory last week at Watkins Glen. Ambrose has won the last two years at the New York road course.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. could be a factor in the cup race. Junior won the last Michigan race held in June. Only four events are left in the regular season before the Chase to the Cup begins.

That's it until next week. Please drive safely!
