David I. Briner

LEWISTOWN - David I. Briner, 82, of Lewistown, died at 11:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at his home.

Born March 4, 1930, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Briner) Mackneer and stepfather, Henry Mackneer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, in 1956; son, David I. Briner, on Feb. 1, 2012; half brother, William Mackneer; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Ira and Grace Briner; and his uncle, the Rev. John Briner.

David is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn G. (Bush) Briner, whom he married on June 9, 1949.

He is also survived by: children, Vickie Bowersox, Deanna Briner and Patricia Bumgardner and husband, Tim, all of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Marie Briner, of Millerstown; five grandchildren, Donald Woodling and his wife, Paula, Becky Yeatter and husband, Howard "Bud," Angie Henry, and Matthew and Jessica Briner; and seven great-grandchildren, Skyler, Mackenzie, Kaithlyn, Cody, Jaime, Kelsey and Jenna.

He was a 1948 graduate of Lewistown Granville High School.

Dave served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict, and retired from the Pa. National Guard achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class E7.

He worked at the following places: Anastasia's Meat Market, Viscose, and as a sales rep for Electrolux He retired from Standard Steel on disability.

Dave was a member of the Assembly of God Church, in Lewistown.

He was a charter member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 50 years, a lifetime member of Belleville VFW, a member of American Legion Post 90, a member of Lewistown Coin Club, and presented flags at military services for many years.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dennis Sproull officiating.

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, in Annville.
