MIFFLINTOWN - Sara C. Boxe, 93, of Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown, and formerly of Mexico, died at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Brookline.

Born Aug. 26, 1918, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Perry L. and Beulah M. (Stine) Powell. On June 26, 1938, she married her late husband, John W. Boxe, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1994, after nearly 56 years of marriage.

Surviving are: her children, Carole L. Miller, of Greencastle, Linda J. Walters and her husband, John Jr., of Mifflintown, Janice C. Smith and her husband, Roy, of Annville; siblings, Jane Switzer, of Mifflintown, Jay Powell, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren, six great- great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one son, John W. Boxe Jr., on Jan. 10, 1969, and three brothers, Perry Powell, Preston Powell and Harold Powell.

Mrs. Boxe was a 1936 graduate of Lewistown High School, and a very active charter member of the First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, where she served as the church's organist and pianist for more than 30 years.

Sara was a homemaker whose love of music led her to play both the piano and organ.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, with Pastor Ron Shupe and Pastor Phil Persing officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, and from 10 a.m. to the time of the service on Friday, at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
