REEDSVILLE - Hazel M. Sunderland, 88, of 15 Park Drive, Reedsville, and formerly of McVeytown, died at 8:27 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 17, 1923, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Palmer and Erma (Daubert) Mattern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Sunderland, in 1998, and her brothers, Palmer and Harold Mattern.
Hazel is survived by: her daughters, Kimbra J. Dillon and husband, Raymond, of Reedsville, and Theresa L. Sunderland, of Indiana, Pa.; grandchildren, Jerret Mater, Sarah Ort and Frederick Sunderland; and three great-grandchildren; and siblings, William Mattern and wife, Mildred, of Bellefonte, Donald Mattern and wife, Shirley, of Milroy, Shirley Laub and husband, Erdnal, of Milroy, Beverly McCalips and husband, Albert, of Lewistown and Dolli Stuter and husband, Richard, of Mifflintown.
She was a 1942 graduate of Milroy High School and early in life was employed at the American Viscose Corporation, in Lewistown.
She was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, where she was a children's Sunday school teacher.
Hazel was an avid homemaker. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and attending family gatherings; sadly, her pet dog, Beau, will miss her.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family with private interment in Juniata Memorial Park.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
