Carl Wayne McElrath

Phoenix - Our beloved Dad, Carl Wayne McElrath, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away around midnight on July 28, 2012, from a progressive disease. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Dad loved Jesus and his family, and was ready and anxious to meet his Lord and reconnect with our mother in Heaven.

Born May 29, 1937, in Thompsontown, he was the son of the late Clayton and Jane McElrath.

After graduating from East Juniata High School in 1955, he moved to the Harrisburg, Hershey, and Middletown area. He attended various colleges including HACC, Penn State, and Elizabethtown and passed the CPA exam in Aug. of 1980, and obtained his B.A. in 1985 from the University of Phoenix. He was a member of the PA Institute of CPA's, AICPA, and the American Association of Accountants.

Dad lived in Pennsylvania until 1983, when he relocated to Arizona with his family. At that time, he gave up public accounting for work in the private sector. From the beginning of 1983 until June of 2003, he was employed in various positions; the last as administrator for a large law firm in downtown Phoenix. He retired in June of 2003 to care for his wife, our mother, who was suffering the effects of Alzheimer's disease.

He married Mom, Charlotte (Badger) McElrath, on July 3, 1959, and they celebrated 48 years together before she passed away in May of 2007 from complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Carl is survived by: his four children, Stephen Paul, Kenneth Allen and wife, Donna Hohenwarter, Meta Janine Campbell and husband, Torin, and John Edward; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carl is also survived by six brothers and two sisters.

Dad was an avid soccer player in his youth and played semi-professionally for the Harrisburg Soccer Club for a number of years.

In his spare time, he played golf and loved to read, mostly historic literature, especially anything having to do with the Civil War.
