SOMERSET - Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Spochart, 88, of Somerset, formerly of Thompsontown, died July 16, 2012, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
Born May 1, 1924, in Dillonville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Aniela (Szlanska) Presky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Walter J. Spochart; son, Ronald W. Spochart; sisters, Stella Baziotes and Helen Milliken; and brothers, John, Ralph, and Zigmunt Presky.
She is survived by: twin sons, Richard L. Spochart and wife, Beverly, of Osterburg, and Robert A. Spochart and wife, Nancy, of Berlin; daughter, Linda J. Walborn and husband, William, of Shamokin Dam; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Anna Polight of Aliquippa, and Sophia Bybee and husband, Kelly, of Valparaiso, Ind.
Elizabeth is a charter member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Mifflintown, serving various times as president of the Legion of Mary, and secretary and president of the Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Thompsontown Wednesday Club, and the Senior Citizens Group. Upon moving to Somerset, she was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, with a vigil for the deceased at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset.
There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Mifflintown. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the church, with the Rev. Samuel E. Houser, a longtime family friend, as celebrant. Committal will be in Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewistown.
