Locals 2-0 in CCL playoffs

SPRING MILLS - The Lewistown Predators took a 5-4 win over Spring Mills Tuesday night during Centre County League play.

Spring Mills lead by one until the top of the third, when Lewistown's Chad Battista driving in the tying run, followed by a go-ahead RBI from Ryan Keefer. Spring Mills never was able to regain the lead.

It was a productive night at the plate. Lewistown outhit Spring Mills, 8-3. With three total hits of his own and two RBIs, Lewistown's Jay Hartman was an offensive standout.

Cody Heane got the win on the mound for the game.

Lewistown, which is ahead 2-0 in the best-of-five series in the CCL playoffs, will play again on Thursday at Mifflin County High School at 5:45 p.m.

Philipsburg 11,

Mifflin County 3

LEWISTOWN - After four innings, the Mifflin County Stars had a small lead over the top seed in the Centre County League playoff bracket.

An inning later, that lead evaporated. Philipsburg scored four runs each in the fifth and sixth innings en route to an 11-3 final in the second game of the best-of-five first-round series against the Stars.

"We started out with them, we played really well early, but couldn't keep up with them," Mifflin County manager Danny Knepp said.

Mifflin County was unable to capitalize on its nine hits. Brian Billett and Colton Spade each had doubles for the Stars; Billett drove in two runs and Spade the other one. Billett and Nick Pupo each had a pair of hits in the game.

Mifflin County, now 0-2 in playoff games, must travel Thursday to Philipsburg where the home team can clinch and end the locals' season.
