Gerald R. Erb

McCLURE - Gerald R. Erb, 85, of 4736 Back Maitland Road, McClure, died at 10:12 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, in the Lewistown Hospital emergency room.

Born Dec. 1, 1926, in Decatur Township, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Agnes E. (Wagner) Erb.

He is survived by: his wife, Frances (Snyder) Erb, whom he married on Aug. 9, 1947; his son, Steven W. Erb, of McClure; and his grandchildren, Deena Ryan and Richard Randell.

He is also survived by his siblings, Hazel Shawver and husband, Jay, of Lewistown, Archie Erb and wife, Jean, of Reedsville, and Philip Erb and wife, Maxine, of Lewistown.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Erb, and an infant brother.

He was a 1943 graduate of Lewistown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the Asian Theatre.

Early in life, Gerald was employed at the American Viscose Corporation and was later employed as a foreman in the wheel mill of Standard Steel in Burnham for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Lawver's United Methodist Church in McClure.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Ray Hackett Jr. officiating.

There will be no public viewing; however, his family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Lawver's Cemetery in McClure.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerald's memory can be made to Lawver's UMC, Whiskey Road, McClure, PA 17841.
