Rev. Jay R. Shenk

KREAMER - The Rev. Jay R. Shenk, 85, of Kreamer, and recently of Manor Care, Sunbury, passed away at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Manor Care.

Born in 1927 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Jay M. and Violet (Lane) Shenk. He was married to the former Shirley Yarnell, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jay and Jennifer Shenk, of Westminster, Mass., Timothy and Donna Shenk, of Granby, Colo., and Jonathan Shenk, of Manuel, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Sarahann Shenk, of Mechanicsburg; one brother-in-law, Edward Yarnell and wife, Elsie, of York; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Shenk was a 1945 graduate of Lewistown High School. He attended Albright College, Yale Divinity School and Bucknell University.

He was a retired United Methodist pastor, serving churches in Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania. He was also an interim chaplain at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and chaplain and teacher at the Robinson School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was also a clinical psychologist at the Selinsgrove Center and MHMR in Sunbury and was associated with the Alternatives Clinic in Selinsgrove.

Arrangements will be at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rev. Shenk's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 71 N Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, or SUN Home Health and Hospice, 61 Duke St., P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.

Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
