Barbara Carol Slee Lane

HARRISBURG - Barbara Carol Slee Lane, 84, of New Cumberland, and formerly of Camp Hill, passed away Saturday, June 16, in Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born March 14, 1928, in Hagerstown, Md., daughter of the late William and Madelyn Shunkweiler Slee. Mrs. Lane was a graduate of Lewistown High School.

She was married in 1951, to the late Richard A. Lane, also of Lewistown.

Frequent moves early in life included Washington, D.C. and Helena, Mont.

She lived in Camp Hill, and New Cumberland, for the past 43 years.

She assisted with the creation of Lane Maintenance Services, which evolved into Cumberland Services, Inc.

Mrs. Lane was a long-time active member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Camp Hill.

Dear to her heart was her involvement with People for Peace, which included attending demonstrations and marches, supporting just causes. She was also active in Physicians for Social Responsibility.

She sought peace since childhood on the shores to the Chesapeake Bay, and found solace either on the water or watching beautiful sunsets with her devoted husband and loving family.

The oldest of three sisters, she is survived by Marjorie, of Okla.

She was preceded in death by her other sister, Mary. She is also survived by her older brother, William Slee, of Florida.

Surviving are two devoted sons, Richard A. Lane and wife, Sally, of Missoula, Mont., and John W. Lane, of Dillsburg. She was a caring and loving grandmother to Ross, Adam, Carley, Justin and Julianne, of Mont., and Madison Carol and Eliza, both of Dillsburg.

Hers was a truly treasured life and she was a dear friend to all those close to her. An angel on Earth who will be missed by all.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Rd., Camp Hill. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday, in the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of her wonderful life will be held immediately following the service, at Dukes Restaurant, Wormleysburg.
