MARIETTA - Joanna R. Shirk, 76, of Marietta, and formerly of Hershey, and Murrells Inlet, S.C., died at 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Lancaster General Hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1935, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Martha (Grabbe) Kline. On June 9, 1957, she married her surviving husband, Harold C. Shirk, with whom she shared more than 55 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two sons, Gregory K. Shirk and his wife, Jennifer, of Dover, and Phillip H. Shirk and his wife, Michelle, of Marietta; and she leaves behind one granddaughter, Mackenzie Shirk.
Joanna was a 1953 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1957 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College, where she received her B.S. degree. She was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy.
Mrs. Shirk retired in 1993, as an elementary school teacher from the Central Dauphin School District, with 35 years of service.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy, with the Pastors Mike Martine and Jim Stough officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family, in the Hershey Cemetery.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, at the church.
