DAVIDSVILLE - Herbert A. Kropfl, 85, of Davidsville, died June 19, 2012, at Laurel View Village. Born June 22, 1926, in Altoona, he was the son of Anton and Agnes (Weiss) Kropfl.
He is preceded in death by parents, son, David B. Kropfl and sister, Frieda Costeline.
He is survived by: wife of 61 years, the former Margaret Marie "Peg" (Leap); children, Deborah, married to Chris Glancy, Susan, married to Randy Stewart, and Jeffrey, married to Judith Kropfl; grandchildren Jeremy and Tyler Stewart, and Gabby, Daniel and Emily Kropfl; and favorite family pets Inky and Buster. He is a brother of Walter Kropfl.

He graduated from Altoona Catholic High School and Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Philippines from 1944-1946. Herb worked his entire life for Penelec. He started in 1950, climbing poles, and gradually advanced to management positions including District Manager in Bedford, Lewistown and Altoona, and he retired as Division Director in Johnstown, in 1990.
Herb was a very active community leader, including the Knights of Columbus, Lewistown Rotary Club and Junior Achievement Association. He was Chairman of the American Cancer Society and President of Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation.
Herb loved spending time in his flower and vegetable gardens. Following retirement, Herb enjoyed wonderful trips with his wife Peg to Europe, Alaska and across the U.S. Herb was a longtime Penn State football fan and followed his alma mater's team at all their home games as well as across the country as part of his beloved "Farquel Family."
Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, at the George E. Mason Funeral Home, Inc. Davidsville, where Vigil for the Deceased will be held in the afternoon. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father Michael Lewandowski OFM Conv. Officiating. Committal will be held at St. John Mausoleum.
