Pa. House postpones planned pension debate

June 24, 2014
Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A planned House debate on public pensions was called off by leaders of the Republican majority.

A spokesman for the House GOP said Monday night that many rank-and-file Republicans are confused over the complicated legislation so the debate was postponed until at least Tuesday.

Gov. Tom Corbett has made pension changes a condition of his willingness to consider new taxes in the state budget that is supposed to take effect next week.

The Republican, whose party controls both chambers of the Legislature, supports an amendment to create a "hybrid" system combining a traditional pension with a defined-contribution plan.
