MIFFLINTOWN - The Juniata County Library summer reading programs will kick off with an event from noon to 3 p.m. on June 16, at the library, where participants can register, decorate team banners, have their faces painted and play a life-sized game of Candy Land.
Families should bring a covered dish for a potluck lunch. The library will provide dessert.
Reading programs include "Dream Big Pre-Readers" for children up to age 4, "Dream Big - Read!" for ages 5-12, and "Own the Night" for ages 13 and older.
The pre-readers program encourages kids to read 30 books and includes story time at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. each Tuesday.
Children in the "Dream Big - Read!" program will win prizes for every 100 pages read, and will be awarded raffle tickets for larger prizes after reaching 1,500 pages.
Participants in the "Own the Night" program will receive prizes and raffle tickets for every 100 pages read, and could win a Nook Simple Touch or an Android tablet. Teen night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday with special events for teens.
