Elizabeth J. ‘Liz’ Weaver

MIFFLIN - Elizabeth J. "Liz" Weaver, 83, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Lewistown Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 24, 1929, in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna (Kerchner) Tyson.

She is survived by: three daughters, Sallye Brackbill, of Port Royal, Birdie Hackett and husband, Robert, and Mary Benfer and husband, Randy, all of Mifflintown; two stepchildren, Anthony "Tony" Weaver, of Manheim, and Anita "Kim" Weaver Glover, of London, Ohio; one sister, SaraAnn Aurand and husband, Harry, of Mifflintown; one stepdaughter-in-law, Joyce Huntsberger, of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; three great-great- granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Denton E. Huntsberger, her second husband, Robert W. Weaver, one stepson, Edward Huntsberger, and one stepgranddaughter, Jessica Dawson.

Liz graduated from Juniata Joint High School and worked as a telephone operator at United Telephone, and as a clerk at Schott's Department Store, Gordon's Department Store, the UniMart and Handi-Market. She was a crossing guard and meter maid for Mifflintown borough, a lunch monitor at Fermanagh Elementary School and a hostess for Family House.

She was a member of Saint Stephen's Lutheran Church, a life member and long-time treasurer of the American Legion Post 298 Auxiliary, an honorary member of Juniata Saddle Horse Association and a past member of Mifflintown Fire Co. Women's Auxiliary, Mifflintown VFW Women's Auxiliary, and the JETS.

She enjoyed going to the Gordon Girls monthly lunches, visiting with friends and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Stephen's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Locust Grove Activities Department, 69 Cottage Road, Mifflin, PA 17058.
