To the editor:
On April 12, we were roused by the pounding of our neighbor, Gary Zarcovich, on our back door. This action most likely saved our house, as he had called 911 and by the time we were awake the garage and all its contents, including two cars and a garden tractor, was fully engulfed. So our sincere thanks starts with Gary and his quick thinking.
From there we express gratitude to the West Granville Fire Company, Chief Pat Pauly, McVeytown Fire Company and Ambulance as well as all the fire companies who responded or covered as these brave men saved the house and got the garage fire extinguished. Everyone was so professional and so dedicated while volunteering and coming out in the middle of the night.
Until you see them in action you cannot fully understand how extraordinary our firefighters really are.
Next we need to send appreciation to our many neighbors who came out to see if they could help. All were so kind and offered hugs, and words of support along with many offers of use of cars, equipment and help with clean up. Special thanks to Bill Rothrock, Barry Armstrong, Bill Grove, and Larry Mackneer who worked tirelessly with to remove debris.
While rebuilding and replacing all that was lost we are grateful it was not so worse. Material things can eventually be replaced but lives cannot. So lastly thanks to Ed Kenepp Builders for working with us to get things back as it was and for all who continue to stop by to offer help.
We couldn't have dealt with all of this without each and every one of you. With sincere thanks to all of the "heros" in Mifflin County.
