Paul E. Rhine

SHERMANS DALE - Paul E. Rhine, 83, of Shermans Dale, went on to be with the Lord at 1:08 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, in the emergency room of the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born Oct. 14, 1928, in Lack Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Lula (Marshall) Rhine. His first wife, Charlotte (Price) Rhine, preceded him in death on June 5, 1962, and his second wife Betty Jane (Campbell) Rhine, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1964, preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2008.

He is survived by: his children, Melissa A. Holmes, of Landisburg, Mary K. Scott and Barbara J. Sharar, both of Shermans Dale, John E. Rhine, of Newport, Diane E. Imes, of Shermans Dale, Gerald A. Clark, of Mifflintown, and Michelle D. Rhine, of Shermans Dale; four siblings, Raymond Rhine, of Dry Run, Levi Pennabaker, of East Berlin, Delma Appleby, of Saint Thomas, and Betty Covert, of Burnt Cabins; and he leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Three sisters, Geraldine Smith, Blanche Williamson and Larue Dunn, two brothers, Kenneth Rhine and Brooks Rhine and one granddaughter, Carla Zang, preceded him in death.

In earlier life, Mr. Rhine started his 35-year career with the Pa. Railroad, after which he worked for Conrail until retiring from Norfolk Southern Railroad, Enola, in 1990 as a supervisor of the signal department.

Paul was a member of the NRA, Cross Keys Conservation Club, Cross Keys Hunting Club and the East Waterford Fire Co. He was also a 32-degree Mason who belonged to the Perry Lodge No. 458 F&AM, Marysville, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Juniata Valley Forrest No. 88 and the Harrisburg Consistory AASR.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting deer and turkeys. Paul was an ardent Phillies fan and enjoyed his daily trips for breakfast to the Village Square Diner, Shermans Dale, but his greatest love was spending time with his family.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with Pastor Judy Rowles officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery, East Waterford.

Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by his lodge.
