Marilyn Jean MacDougall Burnham

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Marilyn Jean MacDougall Burnham, 88, wife of Robert Corbin Burnham of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012.

The relatives and friends of Marilyn Burnham are invited to attend her memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, in the First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms.

Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel. The family will greet friends at the church immediately following the service.

Marilyn Jean MacDougall Burnham

Marilyn was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Skidmore, Mo., daughter of the late David Gregory MacDougall and Jeanette Dugan MacDougall.

Prior to retiring as a bank teller, Marilyn taught school and worked as an administrative assistant. She loved being a homemaker and spending time with her family and friends.

For the past year Marilyn attended the First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms, S.C. She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lewistown, which she attended prior to moving to Mt. Pleasant.

Marilyn loved music, especially church music, and was the choir director of various churches for over 60 years. She also played the piano during worship services.

She is survived by: her husband of 65 years, Robert C. Burnham, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one daughter, Barbara Bates, of Chardon, Ohio; two sons, Robert D. Burnham, of Idaho Springs, Colo. and William D. Burnham, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; three grandchildren, Robin Burnham, Bethany Bryant and Robert Hilscher; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, William Lowell MacDougall, of Arlington, Va.

She was preceded in death by a brother, David Gregory MacDougall Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Ave., Suite 504, North Charleston, SC 29406 or First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Ave., Isle of Palms, SC 29451 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 428 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
