LEWISTOWN - Jay Merrill Reese Sr., 69, of Lewistown, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born Nov. 29, 1942, in Burnham, he was the son of the late James D. Reese Sr. and Catherine (Weakland) Reese.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Reese, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Reese and a nephew, Douglas E. McCormick.

He is survived by: his companion, Judy Cavanaugh; sons, Jay M. "Buck" Reese Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of South Carolina, and Scott Moyer, of Lewistown; siblings, James Reese Jr., of Pittsburgh, Susanne McCormick and husband, Thomas, of Fenwick Island, Del., Catherine Reiss and husband, Richard, of South Carolina, Mary Ellen Reese, of Texas, and Sally King and husband, Dan, of Reedsville; and five grandchildren, Abby and Parker Reese, and Austin, Hunter and Sierra Moyer.
Jay Merrill was a Chief Logan graduate and served in the U.S. Marines.
Early in life he worked at Standard Steel. Later, he was employed by Reese Refrigeration, and finally he was the owner/operator of the Steelworker.
He enjoyed working on his farm and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
A memorial service, with VFW Post 7011 honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Deacon Tom McCormick officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
