THOMPSONTOWN - Shirley A. Martin, 76, of Thompsontown, died at 6:57 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1935, in Thompsontown, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late William D. and Hazel V. (Shelley) Spece. On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Gerald D. Martin, with whom she spent nearly 38 years of marriage, before he preceded her in death on May 4, 1989.
She is survived by: one son, Timothy W. Martin and his wife, Dee, of Thompsontown; her companion of nearly 20 years, C. David Fleisher; three siblings, Terry W. Spece, of Ickesburg, Thelma J. Bitting, of Pine Grove Mills and Sarah J. Davis, of Hemet, Calif.; one granddaughter, Stephanie A. Conner, of Lewisburg; two stepgranddaughters, Stacy R. Genzler, of Suffolk, Va. and Heather J. Hockenberry, of Port Royal; as well as six great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Shirley was a homemaker who loved to sew and enjoyed watching the wildlife from her back porch. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 21, Millerstown.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall Street, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Maureen Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.
Viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service, Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the funeral home.
