BURNHAM - Burnham Borough Council approved Monday a motion to proceed with an ordinance to adopt new housing maintenance codes.
This decision was made following the discussion and review of the code book from the previous month's meeting. The council will seek to improve borough housing codes based upon the 2012 International Property Maintenance Code. The entire code book will not be policed, and individual decisions regarding codes will be made as seen fit.
In regards to the Burnham pool, the council discussed the installation of a lift chair within the very near future to comply with new federal regulations. A mandate by the Americans with Disabilities Act now requires that all public pools have wheelchair lifts. The council is waiting to hear from Keller Engineers before proceeding with said installation.
The council also approved this year's Burnham playground supervisors, lifeguards and pool managers, with supervisors to receive a 50-cent raise this year.
Council granted a request for the use of Burnham roads for the YMCA's 5K run to be held in the future. They also approved to exonerate the $2.50 pool fee on July 10 for youths coming to the pool with Cops 4 Kids, stating that it is a good program.
The council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month.
