MIFFLINTOWN - A second bomb threat was found in a Juniata County school Friday, causing the evacuation of Juniata High School students, a school official said.
A student found a threatening note in a school bathroom around 11 a.m. Friday and alerted a teacher, Juniata County School District Superintendent Richard Musselman said.
Students were evacuated from the building and sent to the Tuscarora Junior High School, Musselman said.
Pennsylvania State Police from the Lewistown barracks took dogs through the high school Friday but did not find any viable threats, the superintendent said.
Because the police did not end their search until about 3:15 p.m., the high school students were dismissed from the junior high school gymnasium, Musselman said.
A similar incident occurred on Monday when a threatening note was found in a bathroom at the junior high. The building was evacuated, but state police did not find any bombs or other threats to students' safety.
Both the school district and state police are investigating the incidents based on evidence recovered at the scenes.
Musselman said individuals responsible for the threats will face seriously disciplinary action from the school district and charges from the legal system.
He said the Friday incident likely was a "copy-cat" from Monday.
Students who try to create a "vacation day" from school by making a fake bomb threat will not be appeased, Musselman said.
While he said students' safety is paramount, Musselman added that school officials will not immediately close school for the day because of a threat.
The school district has emergency procedure plans that are followed to keep students safe, he said.
