3rd annual Sparks in the Park set for May 4, 5 and 6

Public invited to local Civil War reenactment event

LEWISTOWN Area residents and Civil War enthusiasts are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Sparks in the Park reenactment and living history event, set for May 4, 5 and 6 at Derry Township Community Park.

The event will include living history encampments, military demonstrations and examples of daily life during the Civil War era. Hosted by the 148th PA Regiment Field Hospital Living History Unit/Venture Crew, admission to the public is free throughout the weekend, although event organizers say donations are appreciated.

The preliminary schedule of activities for the weekend event is as follows:

Friday, May 4:

9 a.m. Camp opens

9:30 a.m. 4 p.m. Living History and military demonstrations for area schools

5 8 p.m. Living History and military demonstrations for the general public

(NOTE: The Stone Arch Players/Theater In The Park have a performance starting at 8 p.m. Friday. there will be no discharge of firearms or artillery permitted after 7p.m.!)

Saturday, May 5:

10 a.m. 1 p.m. Camp opens, Living History for general public

1-2 p.m. Military and firearms demonstrations

2-3 p.m. -- Battle demonstration, "Confederates raid Derry Twp."

3-4 p.m. Medical demonstration

7 - 10:30 p.m. Civil War ball dance, inside the Green Pavilion*

*The evening ball is also open to public. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Come in your every-day clothes, or dress up in a Civil War costume or uniform if you have one.

Sunday, May 6:

10 a.m. - 12 noon Camp opens, Living History for general public

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Battle demonstration, "The Union strikes back"

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Medical demonstration

3: 30 - 4 p.m. Living History, meet and mingle with the reenactors

4 - 6:30 p.m. Camp tear-down and clean up
