MIFFLINTOWN - Thelma J. Hoffman, 81, a resident at the Brookline Cottages, Mifflintown, formerly of McAlisterville, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.
Thelma was born Aug. 16, 1930, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Nelson and Martha Margaretta (Bitner) Amey. She was the wife of the late Park Henry Hoffman, who preceded her in death on April 14, 2005.
She attended Cherry Hill grammar schoolhouse. Toward the end of World War II, she worked at an ammunition factory in Harrisburg, later working as a waitress in York County, and at the former L. Shellenberger and Son Shirt Factory, Richfield. After she married her husband Park, she assisted with the daily operations of the family farm.
Thelma was a member of Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville. She enjoyed playing cards and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Thelma is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Barry G. and Judy Hoffman, of Richfield; three grandchildren, Kurtis Hoffman and his wife, Jennifer, of Bridgeport, W.Va., Dr. Marcus Hoffman, of Pittsburgh, and Samantha Jacoby and her husband, Joshua, of Harrisburg; a great-granddaughter, Kaylin Grace Hoffman; two sisters, Blanche Amey, of Lewistown, and Shirley Morrow and her husband, Ralph, of Lewisberry; and three brothers, Harold Amey and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mifflintown, Gary Amey and his wife, Eunice, of McAlisterville, and Jeffrey Amey, of Lewistown; a sister-in-law, Gloria Amey, of Lewistown; and nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Amey Jr. and Tom Amey, and a sister, Marian Burgard.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, 20 Bunkertown Road, McAlisterville, with Pastor Greg Jones officiating. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service Monday, at the church. Burial will be made in the Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville.
