LEWISTOWN - Betty L. George, 85, formerly of South Wayne Street, Lewistown, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, in Mifflin.

Born June 23, 1926, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Warren F. and Violet J. (Paul) George.

Surviving are: her sisters, Helen K. Kline, of Allentown, and June V. Shatzer, of Lewistown; four nieces; and four nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Esther M. Eisenhower, and one brother, Paul F. George.

Betty was a 1944 graduate of Lewistown High School.

Early in life she worked for the Lewistown Bus Co., Prothonotary Office, and Lewistown High School. She was a secretary for Pa. Department of Health for 23 years, retiring from the American Red Cross after four years of service.

Betty was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for the primary department. She enjoyed traveling, her family, church functions and also writing religious poetry.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Kari Swigart officiating.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
