LEWISTOWN - Republican incumbent Thomas Marino and Democrat Philip Scollo each won unopposed races Tuesday for their respective party nominations for the 10th Congressional District, according to unofficial election results. The two men will face each other in the Nov. 6 general election for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
As of press time Tuesday, Marino received 50,102 votes in the Republican primary, while Scollo received 18,838 votes on the Democratic ballot.
In Mifflin County, Marino received 3,164 votes in the GOP primary and Scollo earned 952 votes in the Democratic contest.
In Juniata County, Marino earned 2,239 votes on the GOP ballot, while Scollo received 807 votes in the Democratic primary.
Tuesday marked the first time that Mifflin and Juniata county residents voted in a contest for the 10th Congressional District. The district now includes both counties since Pennsylvania had to redraw its congressional district map earlier this year after losing two seats in the House. Parts of Mifflin and Juniata counties previously had been included in the 5th and 9th Congressional Districts.
