David R. Young

MIFFLINTOWN-David R. Young, 47, of Mifflintown, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospital emergency room.

Born Dec. 12, 1964, in Harrisburg, he was the son of David R. Young Sr. and the stepson and son of George S. and Nancy Lee (Shenk) Gross, of Liverpool.

Also surviving are: his wife, Lesa M. (Detra) Young, whom he married Oct. 22, 1994; one daughter, Autumn R. Young, at home; two sisters, Bonnie Heckman, of Harrisburg, and Marlene MacIsaac, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and niece and nephews, Joseph, Elizabeth, and Bradley Long.

He was preceded in death by: one son, Brendan Robert Young; grandmothers, Betty L. Shenk and Helen M. Jones; his aunt, Donna K. Zeigler; his cousin, Teddy Shenk Jr.; and a special dog, Angel.

Dave graduated from Newport High School in 1986 and earned his EMT certifications from HACC.

He was an EMT and the chief of Central Juniata EMS.

He was active in the Boy Scouts and with Mifflintown girls softball, served on Mifflintown Borough Council, was a member of Mifflintown Hose Co. and the Juniata County Sportsmen's Association and was assistant coach of Cumberland County Magic softball team.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His passion was spending time with his family, especially with his daughter and his niece and nephews.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Central Juniata EMS Building, 47 CJEMS Drive, Mifflintown. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where Seven Mountains EMS Council will provide EMS honors.

There will be a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the CJEMS Building, and from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday, also at CJEMS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Central Juniata EMS, PO Box 133, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
