MILROY - A mountain fire that started earlier Friday afternoon was "for all intents and purposes" put out by about 9 p.m., according to Phil Phil Lucas, Executive Director of Mifflin County Emergency Service.
The fire began at approximately 1:10 p.m. at Lingle Valley Road in Armagh Township. The blaze quickly covered at least 10 acres of land. Mifflin County fire fighters, along with fire fighters from the four surrounding counties, assisted at the scene, with 60 units currently working to put the fire out, Lucas said. Milroy Fire Chief Jason Wolfgang was in charge at the scene.
The fire closed both Lingle Valley Road and Stone Creek Road in Armagh Township, with roads leading in also being blocked by fire and rescue personnel. State Route 322 East was directed into one lane as a result as well.

By 9 p.m. the fire had been extinguished, according to Lucas. Wolfgang gave word that all fire departments were available. Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources forest fire crews were to remain in the area overnight to ensure the fire was kept under control.
